Christmas Marketing Plans... Are You Retail Ready?

I hate to already be talking about Christmas 🎄 but when it comes to marketing, those Christmas marketing plans should be well underway. However, the issue with Covid-19 brings with it a new approach to marketing as we once knew it. Reacting in the now and dealing with the unknown. Afterall, if the second wave happens what happens to Christmas shopping for the retail sector?

Now the kids are back at school Christmas planning will already be lurking at the back of all our minds…

Or is it just lurking?

Will many shoppers already be researching and even purchasing those Christmas items? 🎁

Retail at Christmas

The scary fact is that retail stats potentially say yes!

In an article I read recently from Think With Google we need to be kickstarting those Christmas digital strategies earlier this year and due to Covid-19 we need a different approach. 

No surprise there…

Quite simply if you’re in retail and not set-up digitally for your Christmas marketing, you might miss out on early revenue streams and not be ready for the ‘new normal’ way to shop.

1️⃣ Firstly, searches for “available near me” have grown globally by more than 100% since last year. Stats also suggest that 67% of planned shoppers will shop more at local small businesses this Christmas. 

This is GREAT news for small independents!

2️⃣ Secondly, many will be shopping earlier this year to avoid the crowds. 68% in fact! And… 80% plan to consolidate their shopping to make fewer trips.

Be ready for those upselling techniques both on and offline.

3️⃣ Thirdly, the process will be different.

🎁 65% plan to confirm online that an item is in stock before going to buy it. So make sure you are focused on having stock ready and listed online asap.

🎁 39% said they’ll use options to buy online/pick up in-store. I’m sure that the majority have this set up, but if you haven’t, make sure it is.

🎁 63% said they’ll choose to shop at stores that offer contactless shopping. So ensure you’re set up for all contactless options.

We all know that there is potential for another lockdown this side of Christmas… so it’s important to be prepared just in case.
